Under the leadership of Zerubbabel, as governor of Judah, the returning captives built an altar, for making sacrifices to God and they laid a foundation for the Lord’s house. Partly because of opposition from the Samaritans and partly because their priorities were misplaced, work on the Lord’s house had stopped. God used Haggai as a messenger to call attention to the struggles of His people due to their disobedience. God stirred the hearts of His people and work began on the Lord’s house.
