Jairus, a leader in the synagogue at Capernaum, had observed Jesus closely, when He came into the area from Nazareth. In contrast to the Pharisees in Jerusalem, Jairus chose to believe that Jesus was able to perform miracles because He was sent from God. At the time Jesus returned from Decapolis, the faith of Jairus was being tested, because his daughter became deathly ill. Wasting no time, Jairus searched for Jesus and when he found Jesus, he fell to the ground at His feet, pleading with him to come to his house and heal his daughter who was dying.
