Naomi began a process of selling the piece of land that had been owned by her deceased husband, Elimelek. The property was being offered under a legal process called “Guardian-Redeemer.” Boaz was second in line as a Guardian Redeemer. He went to the city gate where business was conducted and asked the relative that was first in line if he wished to redeem the property, which included responsibility for Ruth. The closer relative declined and Boaz bought the property and Ruth became his wife. To Boaz and Ruth a son was born. His name was Obed, who was the father of Jesse, who was the father of King David.
