Two women came to King Solomon, each claiming to be the mother of a baby boy. A tragedy had occurred in which the baby of one of the mothers had died and now each claimed to be the mother of the living baby. There were no witnesses to the event and both were asking King Solomon for justice. To settle the case, Solomon proposed to cut the baby in half, giving one-half to each mother.
The mother of the living baby was moved by love for her child and she said, “No, give the baby to her, so that it can live!” The second mother said, “Neither of us should have the baby, cut him in half.” Solomon said, “Give the baby to the first woman, she is the mother.” [Reflection Based on the Bible Reference – 1 Kings 3:16-27]
