Reflection – Rebekah and Jacob

Rebekah and Jacob

Isaac said to Esau, “I am old and cannot see.  I don’t know the day that I will die; but, I want you to go out and hunt some wild game and prepare it for me the way I like it, so that I can give you my blessing before I die.”

Rebekah overheard this conversation and said to Jacob, “Do as I say; so that you may receive your father’s blessing.”  The plan involved deception in making Jacob seem like Esau.  The deception accomplished its purpose; however, Esau was so furious that he planned to kill Jacob, the day Isaac died.

Rebekah was now faced with a future where she could lose the two people she loved the most, on the same day.  To avoid this she instructed Jacob to go to her brother, Laban’s family.  [Reflection based on the Bible Reference Genesis 27:1-45]
