I’m a member of the Herodian dynasty. Most people call me Herod the Great. My father was born in Edom; but, converted to Judaism and married a nobleman’s daughter. He knew how to succeed in acquiring wealth and influence; something I greatly admired. Our family’s close association with Julius Caesar resulted in receiving Roman citizenship and my father’s appointment as procurator of Judea who in turn appointed me as governor of Galilee when I was 25 years old.
