Under the guidance of God, Jacob prepared to give a blessing to Joseph’s sons, Manasseh and Ephraim. When Joseph approached his father with the boys, he positioned them with the oldest son, Manasseh near Jacob’s right hand and Ephraim near Jacob’s left hand; but, Jacob crossed his arms, placing his right hand on Ephraim’s head. Joseph objected, saying that Manasseh was the older of the two. Jacob left Joseph know he was performing the blessing in accordance with God’s will.
