Joseph recognized his brothers immediately, when they arranged to purchase grain. They were unaware that the Governor of Egypt was their brother. Joseph saw that his brother Benjamin was not with them. In an effort to obtain more information, Joseph accused them of being spies, looking for weaknesses in Egypt’s defense. In the process, Joseph learned that his brother, Benjamin, was at home, as was his father, Jacob. One of the brothers, Simeon, was held hostage until they could provide Benjamin, as proof of their honesty. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – Genesis 42:1-20]
