Pharaoh had two dreams. Both with similar consequences. In one there were seven healthy cows; in the other seven healthy heads of grain. The seven healthy cows were consumed by seven gaunt and ugly cows. The seven healthy heads of grain were swallowed up by seven thin and scorched heads of grain.
In the morning, Pharaoh’s mind was troubled by the meaning of the dreams; but, nobody was able to interpret the dreams. Then, the Chief Cupbearer remembered that two years earlier, Joseph had correctly interpreted his dream and that of the Chief Baker. He informed Pharaoh and Joseph was summoned to the palace.
When Pharaoh asked Joseph if he could interpret the dream, Joseph replied, “I cannot; but, God will provide Pharaoh with the answer.” God’s interpretation was that Egypt would experience seven good years of harvest followed by seven years of famine.
