Not only could Jesus understand what people were thinking, He had excellent hearing. He was aware that His disciples were being questioned by the Pharisees about His choice in attending a dinner where there were tax collectors and sinners. Jesus chose to answer the question that was not asked of Him. He stated that His purpose was to preach repentance to sinners. As an example, the host of the dinner, Levi [Matthew] was reborn of the Spirit of God, left his former life and became a devoted follower of Jesus, and evangelist and author of the Book of Matthew.
