Bypassing the kind words offered by Nicodemus, Jesus spoke to the need in the heart of Nicodemus. A need that could only be satisfied by a surrender of his will to God. To Nicodemus He said, “You must be born again!” Nicodemus thought this conversation wasn’t going like he expected; instead, he was being confronted with something he needed to do…something that made no sense to him.
