Each year Elkanah and Hannah would make the trip from their town to Shiloh to worship and offer sacrifice to God. This trip always reminded Hannah of her childless situation and was a time of sorrow and grief. On one of these occasions she poured out her heart to God in prayer. Eli, the priest, observed her, but could not hear any words. In her heart she vowed to God that if He would give her a son, she would give him back to God all the days of his life.
God gave Hannah a son and true to her promise, she returned to Shiloh and presented her son, Samuel, to Eli for service to God. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Samuel 1:1-28]
