Ezra, a priestly descendant of Aaron and a teacher well versed in the Law of Moses and a scribe by trade, was empowered by King Artaxerxes to lead thousands of Jews from Babylon to Jerusalem. The king and his advisors provided silver and gold to Ezra along with permission to accept free-will offerings from others in Babylon. The same king that had previously stopped construction of walls around Jerusalem was now ordering that Trans-Euphrates treasuries provide supplies for the temple workers. The objective was to provide support for the Jewish population to worship the God of Heaven. [Reflection is based on the Bible Reference – Ezra 7:1-26]
