As David walked among the Israelite men at the battle front, he overheard parts of conversations about the Philistine giant, Goliath, and bits and pieces of what King Saul had said. He wanted to know more, so he asked. When he asked, his oldest brother saw him talking to the men and he was angry. In his anger, he said some unpleasant things to David. This didn’t stop David from continuing to question still more men.
Eventually, his comments were reported to King Saul and the king sent for David. When David appeared before the king, he said God would deliver Goliath into his hands. When David confronted Goliath he said, “I come against you in the name of the Lord Almighty. This day the Lord will deliver you into my hands.” With a sling and a stone Goliath fell to the ground. That day, God enabled the Israelites to defeat the Philistines. [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Samuel 17:4-52]
