An Israelite among Philistines, David was among people that were enemies of the Israelites. Although, he was allowed by King Achish to live in Ziklag, David’s reputation was widely known. When Achish informed David that the Philistines were preparing to battle the Israelites, David and his men joined at the rear of Achish’s troops. When they arrived at Aphek, the other Philistine commanders objected to David and his men joining them, saying, “In the middle of the battle they might turn on us in order to gain favor with King Saul.” So, Achish reluctantly told David that the next morning they should return to Ziklag.
