After escaping a plot on his life by a group of Jews in Damascus, Saul returned to Jerusalem intent on meeting with the apostles. The apostles were aware that Saul was on his way to see them; and they were thinking of the havoc he created in Jerusalem before he went to Damascus. With this in mind, they were not inclined to “put the welcome mat out” for Saul. It was Barnabas, however, that met Saul and brought him to the apostles along with a telling of how God chose Saul and transformed him and how Saul proclaimed that Jesus was the Messiah to all in Damascus that would listen.
