Ahaz, King of Judah, chose to do evil in the sight of God. In addition to worshipping idols, he sacrificed his son in the fire. Both Aram [Syria] and Israel were attacking Judah; so Ahaz sent a messenger to Assyria offering to give silver and gold from the temple and the royal palace if Assyria would help by attacking Damascus (capital of Aram). This alliance led to an unholy worship in the temple resulting from what Ahaz observed when he visited with the king of Assyria. [Reflection is based on the Bible Reference – 2 Kings 16:1-18]
