Simon Peter had worked all night, casting his fishing nets into the water and retrieving them without anything to show for his effort. In the morning, while he was washing his nets, Jesus came along, followed by a crowd of people. Jesus asked if he sit in the boat while he talked to the people.
When Jesus had finished his teaching, he asked Simon Peter to cast his nets on the other side of the boat. Simon was tired and ready to go home for some rest; besides, he had fished all night with no success; and, this seemed like a waste of time.
Nevertheless, with an abundance of skepticism he cast the nets on the other side. In short order, the nets were full and nearly bursting. There were so many fish that an additional boat was called to help. Following this, Jesus said, “Come, I’ll make you a fisher of men.” [Bible: Luke 5:1-11]
