“Go and scout the land, especially Jericho”, Joshua instructed the two spies. Jericho was a city fortified with a wall around the entire city. During the daytime, the city gates were normally open. Through these gates passed the two Israelite spies. Led by God, they arrived at an innkeeper’s residence. The innkeeper, Rahab, became aware of Israelites identity and had knowledge of how God had parted the Red Sea and destroyed the Egyptian army and destroyed the army of the Amorites and would destroy Jericho.
As a result of her faith in the God of the Israelites, Rahab provided security for the spies; and, in return the lives of Rahab and her family were spared when Jericho was destroyed by God. God continued to bless Rahab, with a son named Boaz. One day in the future, a great-great grandson named David would become King of the Israelite nation. [Bible: Joshua 2:1-24; Matthew 1:5-6]
