“Pick your best fighter and pit him against me. If he wins, we (Philistines) will be your slaves; but if I win, you all (Israelites) will be our slaves and will serve us.” This is what Goliath, the nearly 10-foot tall Philistine warrior said to the Israelites.
David, the youngest son of Jesse, said to King Saul, “Let me go!” “But, you’re young and inexperienced,” King Saul responded. David said, “While tending my father’s sheep I’ve killed lions and bears with my hands. God will deliver Goliath into my hands.”
Reluctantly, King Saul agreed; but, insisted that David take the king’s body armor. The armor was so heavy that it restricted David’s movement; so he discarded the armor and faced Goliath with simply a sling and some stones.
Goliath acted as though he was insulted by his opponent and he said, “I’ll make roadkill out of you and feed you to the buzzards.” To which, David said, “God will deliver you into my hand, I will cut off your head and feed your body to the crows and coyotes. [Bible: I Samuel 17:32-51]
