It was a Sabbath, and I went to the Synagogue as usual. This day was different, however; because the man called Jesus was there. He looked right at me, so intently, that I felt like He was looking inside me. Perhaps, He was reading my thoughts. If He was, He would know that I was ashamed of my looks. I tried to keep my hand covered because it looked terrible. Over time it had become useless and now deformed.
I saw some of the Pharisees over in a corner, talking among themselves. I felt awkward; because some of them were glancing over at me. Maybe I could move further away from them and get behind someone so they couldn’t see me. But, that didn’t work; because Jesus interrupted His teaching and pointed to me and told me to come up front. Now, everybody was looking at me.
I remember the words of Jesus. As He looked over at the Pharisees, He asked, “Is it lawful to do good on the Sabbath?” They didn’t answer. Then He told them that if they had a sheep that fell into a pit on the Sabbath, they would lift it out. He said I was more valuable than a sheep. With that He asked me to stretch out my hand. When I stretched out my hand it became healed. [Story based on the Bible Reference – Matthew 12:9-13]
