I was used by some of the Jewish leaders to set a trap for Jesus. I didn’t know in advance; but, when I was caught, I knew I was guilty of a Jewish law. The punishment for my sin could have been death.
I was taken to one of the outer courts of the temple, where a large crowd of people had assembled. In the crowd were religious teachers of the law. They made me stand in front of all the people, while they stated the charges against me. Then they asked Jesus if I should be stoned, as they said the law required. If Jesus agreed with them, I would be dead before the day ended. If He disagreed, they would charge Him with failure to uphold the Jewish law.
I have never been so frightened and humiliated in my life. I just couldn’t see how anything good could come out of this. Then, Jesus did something unexpected. Instead of answering them, He stooped down and began writing something in the sand. The leaders wouldn’t stop insisting that He answer the question. So, slowly He rose to His feet and He said, “All right, but let the person among you that has never sinned cast the first stone.” One by one, the accusers slipped away; until it was Jesus and me. Then He said to me, “Go and sin no more!” [Story based on the Bible Reference – John 8:1-11]
