During Jacob’s lifetime, he learned that it was best to be obedient to God’s will. While, he wanted to see Joseph and he was aware that Joseph wanted him and his family and their flocks to move to Egypt, what did God want? In the presence of his family and their households he worshipped God. His heart wanted to know God’s will. God responded to Jacob in a vision in which He assured Jacob that it was His will for Jacob and his family and flocks to move to Egypt where He would enable Jacob’s descendants to become a great nation. Jacob’s grandfather, Abraham, had been told it would be 400 years before this great nation would return to Canaan. For now, the seventy people in Jacob’s family are going to a place that God is preparing for them.
