The test began when God asked Abraham to do just about the last thing he would want to do; travel a distance of a three-day journey and offer his beloved son, Isaac, as a sacrifice. Choices: Yes or no. Satan must have tried to influence Abraham’s decision. Perhaps with a question like: “Are you sure you heard Him correctly? Maybe you should wait and see if He asks you again.”
Abraham chose to obey God; and he began the journey. All along the way, Satan likely continued with: “Maybe you misunderstood. It’s not too late to go back.” At the last minute, with the altar prepared, Isaac as the sacrifice, Abraham with knife in hand, God restrained him. Abraham passed the test, remained faithful to God, was a role model for obedience to God; and became the father of what would become the Israelite nation.
