When Isaiah predicted that first Assyria would destroy and take captives many of the Jews living in Israel (the Northern Kingdom) and later Babylon would destroy and take many captives from Jerusalem (part of the Southern Kingdom), King Ahaz did not listen to Isaiah. If their leader didn’t heed Isaiah’s warnings, many of the people thought, “Why should they”? When a “New Jerusalem” that would be lighted with the presence of God was predicted, many found this hard to believe. The “New Jerusalem” is a future event, yet to be fulfilled. Many still do not listen or do not care or do not believe.
