Inspired by God’s Spirit, Stephen provided an excellent summary of God’s relationship with the Israelite nation. Stephen pointed out that on many occasions the Israelites were disobedient to God’s instructions, persecuting the prophets, up to the present time when the people listening to him were responsible for the death of God’s Son, the Messiah. If the High Priest and religious leaders were courteous in listening to Stephen’s historical summation, their attitude changed when he told them they were “stiff-necked” and guilty of murdering God’s Son.
