The High Priest, Caiaphas, called the Sanhedrin into session for the purpose of settling the matter of Peter and John’s failure to adhere to the order to stop teaching about Jesus to the people. Instead of the prisoners, Peter and John, entering under the custody of the temple guards, the religious leaders were informed by the guards that the prison cell was empty even though the doors were locked and there were guards at the doors. “What could this mean?” the leaders wondered.
