One Sabbath, Jesus went into a synagogue to teach about repentance and the need for a spiritual rebirth. The gathering of people that day included a man with a withered hand and some Pharisees. The Pharisees were particularly anxious to see if Jesus would heal the man on the Sabbath. Aware of the intentions and agenda of the Pharisees, Jesus used the opportunity to teach that good or evil choices can be made regarding the Sabbath. When Jesus chose to do good on the Sabbath by healing the man’s withered hand, the Pharisees chose to do evil by plotting with men on ways to kill Jesus.
