Jesus was aware of the buying of animals for sacrifices and the exchange of money for temple offerings; and the associated activity this created, from attendance at previous Jewish religious festivals. At this phase of His earthly life, He has disciples that He was teaching about the Kingdom of Heaven and obedience to God. The Spirit of God guided His action in disrupting the activity by driving out the animals and overturning the tables. He exclaimed that His Father’s House was being used as a marketplace and that they were conducting themselves like a den of thieves.
