Satan began with “If you are the Son of God,” deceitfully implying that he was not sure if Jesus was actually God’s Son. The response of some, when questioned, would be “Of course I’m who I say I am. I’ll prove it to you.” Jesus, however, did not need to prove His identity to Satan; but rather His obedience to His Father. His response to Satan was to quote scripture from Deuteronomy 6:16: that God is not to be tested. [Reflection is based on the Bible Reference – Luke 4:9-12]
