In a vision from God, the future of Judah and Israel were revealed to Zechariah. The religious leaders would fashion a system that elevated the role of the priests at the expense of the poor and sick. In this vision, Zechariah asked the leaders to pay him what they thought he was worth; or, not pay him at all. They responded by giving him thirty pieces of silver. God instructed him to throw the thirty pieces to the potter in the temple. Years later, this would be the price that Judas received for delivering Jesus to be crucified.
