About 740 BC and continuing for over forty years, Isaiah prophesied about events that would happen in the future. During his life, Judah was ruled by Uzziah (Azariah), Jotham, Ahaz and Hezekiah. God used Isaiah as a messenger to speak out against the leaders and the people for their evil practices, including the worship of pagan gods. While Daniel, Jeremiah and Ezekiel predicted the release of the Jewish captives and/or the downfall of Babylon, Isaiah predicted the fall of Babylon a century earlier. Part of Isaiah’s prophecy appears to relate to Babylon of 539 BC and part to a form of Babylon associated with the second coming of Jesus. [Reflection is based on the Bible Reference – Isaiah 14:1-27]
