The attitude Rehoboam displayed when Jeroboam and the ten tribes from northern Israel sought relief from the heavy taxation and forced labor, convinced the northern tribes that Rehoboam didn’t care about their welfare, but simply planned to treat them as slaves. The ten tribes decided that they would no longer support this arrangement and the tribe of Judah could do their own work. They made Jeroboam their king. This division resulted in the northern kingdom (Israel) and the southern kingdom (Judah). [Reflection based on the Bible Reference – 1 Kings 12:1-24]
