Amnon, the oldest son of David and his wife Ahinoam was physically attracted to his half-sister, Tamar. So much so, that people could see by his demeanor that something was wrong. Amnon’s cousin, Jonadab asked him, “What’s the matter?” When Amnon revealed that he loved Tamar, Jonadab said, “That’s easy, just pretend to be sick and when your father, King David checks on you, ask him to have Tamar make you something to eat.” When Tamar brought him something to eat, he forced himself on her and then afterwards he hated her as much as he had previously loved her. She begged him to ask King David for approval for them to become married. Amnon would have nothing to do with Tamar. He had the servants remove her and bolt the door to keep her out. Absalom learned of the evil deed and hated his step-brother. In time Absalom had his servants kill Amnon; but, because of his guilt, he fled to safety with his grandfather, Talmai, king of Geshur.
