It had been a long day, and evening was fast approaching. The crowd of people had followed Jesus to a remote area because they wanted to hear more of His teaching. Philip, one of the disciples, suggested the crowd be dismissed so they could go into villages to buy food to eat. “They don’t need to go away,” Jesus said. “You feed them!” Andrew, another disciple spoke up, “There’s a boy that has five small loaves and two fish; but, what good is that with this huge crowd?” Jesus said, “Have them sit down.” When everyone was seated, He took the loaves and fish and gave thanks, and distributed to all, as much as they wanted. This miracle made such an impression on the people that some wanted to take Him by force and make Him their king. As this was not God’s plan, Jesus slipped away, to be by himself.
