One day, as Jesus was passing through Jericho, there was a man named Zacchaeus, who was a chief tax collector. News of the man, called Jesus, and His miraculous healings had reached his ears; and, he wanted to see the man for himself. The problem was, he was short and the crowd around Jesus made it impossible for Zacchaeus to get a good look at Him. Clever Zacchaeus ran up ahead and climbed up a tree that was directly in the path. Now, he would be able to get a good look. As Jesus approached the tree, he saw not only Zacchaeus; but, he saw into his soul. And, what He saw, He liked, because He said, “Zacchaeus, come down here. I’d like to come to your house today.” With excitement, Zacchaeus scrambled down the tree. In that moment, Zacchaeus received a new spirit…a new life as a believer that Jesus was the Son of God. In front of the crowd he said, “I give half of my possessions to the poor; and, If I’ve cheated anybody out of anything, I will pay back four time the amount.”
