An officer of Herod’s court was a believer in Jesus and His power to heal. When he heard that Jesus had returned to Cana, the village where Jesus had turned water into wine, at a wedding ceremony, he travelled a day’s journey from Capernaum to Cana to ask Jesus to come and heal his child who was near death. Jesus was aware that there was a widely held misconception that a person needed to be in the presence of Jesus to be healed. This officer shared that belief. Jesus wanted to strengthen the faith of the officer, His disciples and all the people; so He simply said, “Go, your son will live!” And live his son did. As a result the entire household became believers and received spiritual life.
