HEARTS AND ROCKS
Proverbs 4:23 Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.
On a recent vacation to Rockport, Massachusetts, I was enjoying the relaxation of simply sitting along the shoreline and watching the waves coming in and going out. I was especially intrigued by the rocks. I was noticing how some were very smooth and others were moss covered. The smooth ones had endured years of having those waves crash against them; while others, still having the same waters come in against them, had a much different surface. Could the same thing be true of our hearts? Some are able to endure years of “stuff” but still find a way to remain unscathed. Others, though, because of the trials and waves, develop a covering over their hearts.
Dear Heavenly Father, I pray that our hearts, through your love, compassion, forgiveness and mercy, will remain open to all situations. I pray that our hearts will not become “moss covered”. Help us to be like your son and respond to situations as Jesus would.
